Why this scholarship exists

Our story

This scholarship was born from personal experience. I know what it means to walk a difficult educational path, where opportunities are limited, where few around you believe in the value of education, and where the vision for your own future must come from within. In such an environment, finding even one person who truly understands your ambitions is a rare gift. Reaching the other side takes more than talent; it takes the stubborn belief that a better future is possible.

I created this scholarship not to help everyone — no single initiative can — but to offer meaningful support to a small number of promising Ethiopian students whose names may one day be known well beyond our borders. Just as importantly, I hope it inspires others to build initiatives of their own.

The larger dream is to reach thousands of students through the collective effort of everyone who believes in this mission.

To recognize, encourage, and financially support promising Ethiopian high school students from underserved communities — helping them stay in school, finish strong, and step into the future they deserve.

The founder

Dr. Anteneh Andualem Tsegaye] founded this scholarship in 2026.Dr. Anteneh Andualem Tsegaye is an engineer, researcher, and strong believer in the transformative power of education. He holds a B.Sc. in Materials Science and Engineering and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Optical Science and Engineering, an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of physics, optics, and engineering. His educational journey was shaped not only by academic achievement, but also by persistence, determination, and the experience of pursuing ambitious goals despite limited opportunities, guidance, and support along the way. Having personally experienced how difficult it can be to see a future for yourself that others may not yet see, Anteneh understands the importance of encouragement, opportunity, and having someone believe in your potential. These experiences inspired him to establish the Ethiopian Youth Education Support Scholarship (EYES) to help talented and determined Ethiopian students move forward in their educational journeys. For Anteneh, this initiative is not simply about providing financial assistance. It is about recognizing potential, encouraging young people to believe in what they can become, and providing a helping hand at a stage of life when even a small opportunity can make a meaningful difference. His hope is that a student supported today may become a scientist, engineer, physician, educator, entrepreneur, researcher, leader, or innovator of tomorrow—and that this initiative will encourage others to join in creating greater educational opportunities for Ethiopia’s next generation.
